Are You Trying Too Hard?

Todd Bumgardner, MS, CSCS at ProSource.com took a look at overtraining and being too aggressive in your workouts and the potential risk and effect on gains as a result. The study looked at a few "training fails" that led to issues including injury, anti-progress and more:

"Removing injurious efforts from our training is as important as installing productive actions. By examining training saboteurs from an objective, negative space we'll increase our skill and evolve strength into a positive habit."

Overcome 9 Training Mistakes Everybody Makes

Let's face it, nobody's perfect. Even the most seasoned lifter is still prone to mistakes here and there and Bodybuilding.com's Bill Gieger lists a few of the most common mistakes and ways to prevent them:

"Every phase of training comes with its own unique challenges and temptations, and none of us are immune to error. The sooner you recognize these classic training blunders, the sooner you can correct them and get back to growing!"

Is Fasted Cardio The Best For Burning Fat?

Our good friend Jim Stoppani, Ph.D. had a fascinating look at fasted cardio over at Bodybuilding.com. Fasted cardio is doing cardio workouts, whether HIIT or not on an empty stomach. Most believe this is the most effective way to lose weight quickly, but is it true?

"Some research does actually show that when you do cardio fasted in the morning, you burn up to 20 percent more fat.

A recent study from the UK published in the "British Journal of Nutrition" found that when subjects were fasted during morning cardio they burned 20 percent more fat than when they had a meal beforehand. Several earlier studies show similar results.

Despite the evidence above, we can't unequivocally say that fasted cardio is best for burning fat. Many studies on fasted or fed cardio focus solely on how many calories are burned during exercise. This is problematic because the real benefits of exercise, particularly high-intensity cardio and lifting, come after training."

So, does it actually work? Check out Jim's full study including his "Stoppani Solution" at http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/is-fasted-cardio-the-best-for-burning-fat.html
